Richard Eric Benton, 36, of the second block of Franklin Ave., Portsmouth, died Thursday, Oct. 5, 1995, in Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.

Eric was born in Portsmouth and was employed by Merrill Lynch.

He is survived by his parents, Walter R. and Ruth A. Benton of Portsmouth; two brothers, Walter Gary Benton and Alvin Wayne Benton, both of Chesapeake; sister, Susan B. Simmons of Windsor, Va.; a sister-in-law, Carmen D. Benton of Chesapeake; three nephews, Jacob Ross Simmons, Phillip Micah Simmons of Windsor, and Zachary Tatem Benton of Chesapeake; two nieces, Julia Nicole Benton and Allison Renae Benton of Chesapeake; two grandmothers, paternal grandmother, Lina Belle Benton, and maternal grandmother, Irma B. Ayscue, both of North Carolina. He will be missed by all.

Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 3 p.m. in Loving Funeral Home, Churchland Chapel, by the Rev. Alan Moor. Burial will be 2 p.m. Monday in Old Saint Paul's Episcopal Church Cemetery in Chestertown, Md. The family will be at the funeral home today from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
