Juliana Maxon Shomaker died Jan. 11, 2001, in her home.

She was born Nov. 11, 1950, and was the daughter of the late Robert Paul and Mary Walsh Maxon . She attended James Madison University, Shenendoah Conservatory of Music and sang with the Virginia Symphony Chorus.

She is survived by her son, Justin Matthew Shomaker; three sisters, Peggy M. Parker of Portsmouth, Michele Maxon of Kill Devil Hills, N.C., and Paula Wenz of Norfolk; a brother, James Maxon of Chesapeake; her aunts and uncles, Juliana Brown, Pauline Groves and Maxine and George Polak, all of Sioux City, Iowa; her dog Sandy; and many nieces and nephews and good friends.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Ebenezer United Methodist Church, Suffolk, by the Rev. Carl LeMon. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday at Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel, and will also be at 3313 Brookside Lane, Portsmouth.
