Suffolk - Alton Ray Mills, 66, of Suffolk, VA passed away peacefully
on Friday, March 27, 2015 in his home after a courageous battle with
cancer. His friends and family were by his side when he went to be
with his Lord and Savior. He was born November 18, 1948 in Pitt
County, North Carolina later becoming a resident of Virginia. He was
a graduate of Cradock High School, class of 1967. He worked at
Norfolk Naval Shipyard from 1973 to 1999 as a nuclear welder, a
master of his craft. Alton was granted the nickname "Tig Daddy" by
his coworkers. He loved being on the water, fishing, woodworking and
watching westerns, but most of all he loved spending time with his
family and friends. In addition to his parents he was preceded in
death by his brother Graham Lonnie Mills and his daughter Michelle
Marie Mills. Surviving are his four children Shawn Mills Duckwall of
Portsmouth, VA; Morgan Paige Mills of Greenville, NC; Madison Rae
Mills of Belvedere, NC; Alton Graham Mills of Raleigh, NC; 8
grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; and lifelong best friend and
brother Carl Farris. The children would like to thank Eric Clary for
his caring friendship and Heartland Hospice for their assistance
during Alton's last days. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent
in Alton's honor to The Boys and Girls Club of Southeastern Virginia
(Suffolk chapter), 3415 Azalea Garden Rd., Norfolk, VA 23513. A
celebration of Alton's life will be held at the Farris residence
(110 Northgate Lane, Suffolk, VA) on Saturday, May 2 at 2:00.
