SUFFOLK - Nelson Kendrick Crutchfield Sr., 54, of the 2500 block of Pruden Blvd., died May 1, 2003, in a Suffolk hospital.

A native of Christiansburg, Va., he was the son of the late Samuel C. Crutchfield and the late Dorothy Childress Edwards. He was a retired vice president of Manry Rawls Corp. Insurance in Franklin, Va., and a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a member of Magnolia United Methodist Church, and Independent Insurance Agents of Virginia.

He is survived by his wife, Jackie L. Crutchfield; two sons, Nelson ''Nick'' Crutchfield Jr. of Norfolk and Johnathan Andrew Crutchfield of Suffolk; three brothers, Michael Crutchfield of Anza, Calif., Eric Crutchfield of Roseville, Calif., and Dana Edwards of Fuquay-Varina, N.C.; an aunt, Wilma Williams of Portsmouth; a cousin, Dreama Lott of Suffolk; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Magnolia United Methodist Church by Pastor Michael Derflinger. Please do not send flowers. Friends may call at the residence. Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel, is handling arrangements.
