Chesapeake - Oliver Milton Smith Sr., 72, born in Portsmouth, Va., beloved husband of over 50 years to Rosetta Johnson Smith, lifelong resident of Deep Creek, went to be with the lord on December 6, 2013 surrounded by his loving family. Oliver was a member of Alexander Baptist Church where he was a Deacon. Following his retirement from Seaboard Coastline Railroad as a Yardmaster, Oliver continued working at White's Nursery & Penske Trucking. He was also a member of Lake Drummond Masonic Lodge #178 A.F. & A.M. and past High Priest of Cradock Royal Arch Chapter #72. He was an active volunteer in Pony Baseball and a member of the P&W Hunt Club.

In addition to his loving wife, he is survived by 5 children, Theresa (Ted) Waller, Cindy (Simon) Bettinger, Buddy (Michele) Smith, Neel (Stacey) Smith, and Michele (Billy) Brooks; 12 grandchildren, Nick, Jenny & Jacob Waller, Caitlin & Troy Bettinger, Joseph, Casey & Nikki Smith, Hannah and Courtney Smith and Laurel and Billy Brooks; 4 siblings Hetty White, Henry Smith, Pat Smith and Candy Blanchard; a brother-in-law, Dwight Johnson; 2 sisters-in- law Darlene Wylie and Debbie Johnson; and his loving sheltie Max. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family will receive friends from 3-4:30 p.m. Sunday December 8, 2013 at Loving Funeral Home, Churchland Chapel. A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Monday December 9, 2013 at Alexander Baptist Church by Dr. Bryan J. Ray. Interment will follow in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens with Masonic Rites. The family requests, that, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the Alexander Baptist Church New Bus Fund, 4316 Pamela Court, Chesapeake, VA 23321.
