PORTSMOUTH - Cecil Ray Dodd, 73, of Fairway Drive, passed away Friday, May 6, 2011.

He was a native of Smithfield, N.C., and was retired from Norfolk Naval Base as an electrical engineering technician.

He was a member of Elizabeth Manor Country Club and was a U.S. Army veteran. Cecil was predeceased by his parents, Auvid Victor and Unita Hall Dodd and a sister, Judith Culpepper.

Survivors include his wife, Edith M. Dodd; three daughters, Cheryl Dodd Duhon and her husband James of Mechanicsville, Sylvia Dodd Powell and her husband Brian of South Mills, Karen Dodd Brooks and her husband George of Chesapeake; one son, Gregory J. Dodd and his wife Christen of Virginia Beach; one sister, Diane Dodd Asble of Suffolk; one brother, Philip W. Dodd and his wife Elizabeth of West Chester, Pa.; seven grandchildren, Sean Howard and his wife Sissy, Derek Howard and his wife Erin, Scott and Matthew Powell, Garrett and Rachel Brooks, Mathilde Dodd; one stepgreat-granddaughter, Olivia Bullock; numerous nieces, nephews and longtime friends as well as his beloved dog, Stevie.

A funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 10, by the Rev. James Gordon in Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel. Burial will follow with Army honors in Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart and Diabetes Association .
