VIRGINIA BEACH - Richard C. "Dick" Zicafoose, 71, of Earleville, formerly of Virginia Beach, died Nov. 2, 2007, in his home.

 

Mr. Zicafoose was born Feb. 12, 1936, in Asbury, W.Va., son of the late Arthur C. and Dorothy Cumby Zicafoose. He was raised in Portsmouth and served in the U.S. Army upon graduation from high school. He graduated from Virginia Tech with a mechanical engineering degree and retired from the federal government after 31 years as an aviation engineer at the Naval Air Rework facility in Norfolk. He raised his family in Virginia Beach and retired to Carrollton, Va., before moving to Earleville in 2002.

 

Dick volunteered as a math tutor for junior high school students and was an avid square dancer with 'The Wrecktangles" square dancing club. He loved spending time with his three grandchildren and teaching them to read. He was predeceased by a brother, A. Dale Zicafoose.

 

Mr. Zicafoose is survived by a son, Craig and his wife Jaime Price Zicafoose of Earleville; daughter, Kim Zicafoose of Alexandria, Va.; sister, Maxine Collins of Elkton, Va.; brother, Tom Zicafoose of St. Augustine, Fla.; and three grandchildren, Zoe, Olivia and Russell.

 

Services are private. Arrangements by the Galena Funeral Home of Stephen L. Schaech, Galena, Md.
