Gailya Chambers Johnson, 68, of Greenleaf Drive, died Feb. 1, 2004, in Norfolk.
 

Mrs. Johnson was born Oct. 19, 1935, in Smyth County, Va., to the late Joseph Everett Chambers and the late Ivory Etta Blevins Chambers. She was previously self employed with Johnson-Atwell Prescription Opticians and was a partner in Johnson Optical Co. Mrs. Johnson was a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church and a member and volunteer with many community and charitable organizations.

 

She is survived by her husband, Thomas Edward Johnson Sr.; a daughter, Kimberley Gailya Johnson Wagner and husband Kenneth Wayne Wagner Sr.; a son, Thomas Edward Johnson Jr.; a sister, Patricia Medlin. She was a loving and devoted grandmother to her two grandchildren, Kimberley "Kimi" Dawn Wagner and Robert "Robbie" Wayne Wagner; and a very special pet, Teaque.

 

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, Chesapeake, with the Rev. Larry Adams officiating. Memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association or to the American Heart Association. The Cremation Society of Virginia, Virginia Beach, is in charge of arrangements.
