Charles R. ''Chuck'' Sykes Jr., 67, of the 4700 block of Hatton Point Road, died July 15, 1999, at his residence.

He was a native of Portsmouth and a son of the late Betty Anderson Sykes and Charles R. Sykes Sr. Retired from Norfolk Naval Shipyard, Mr. Sykes was a member of Portsmouth Naval Lodge No. 100, A.F.&A.M.; Portsmouth Scottish Rite; Cradock Royal Arch, Chapter No. 72; Khedive Temple; McDonald's Morning Coffee Club; Cradock Admirals Retired Class of 1950; and Boys Club of Alexander Park. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War.

Survivors include his wife, Phyllis D. Sykes; a daughter, Sheryl S. Hooker of Portsmouth; and a brother, Jesse E. Sykes and his wife, Mary, of Suffolk.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel, by the Rev. Carlton Smith. Burial with Masonic rites will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 645 Woodlake Drive, Chesapeake VA 23320.
