Chesapeake - Ruth Smith Pryor, 81, of the 2700 block of Meadow Drive
E, passed sday, August 8, 2013. A native of Clemmons, N.C., she
graduated from Cradock High School in 1949 and retired from Norfolk
Shipbuilding & Drydock (Norshipco) in 1998. She was a member of
Alexander Baptist Church, the Shining Light Sunday School Class,
Order of the Eastern Star-Chapter 16, and the Green Meadow Point
Garden Club.
She enjoyed walking her best pal, Molly, and spending time with her
family and friends, especially during the holidays, at church and
Eastern Star. She loved gardening and watching for the cardinals and
hummingbirds from her favorite chair at home.
She was predeceased by her parents, Charlie and Nannie Smith and by
her husband, William C. Pryor, two sisters Mary Sandford, Faye
Vance, and a brother Gray Smith.
Survivors include her daughter, Kimberly A. Pryor of Chesapeake; two
sisters, Elsie Murray of Suffolk and Nancy Hogan of Chesapeake; four
brothers, David and Jeanette Smith of Advance, N.C., Wayne and
Bonnie Smith of Carrollton, Forrest and Anna Smith of Chesapeake and
Andrew Joseph Smith of Portsmouth; and a sister-in-law, Doris P.
Worley of Hillsborough, N.C.
The family expresses thanks for the care and compassion of Dr. Fred
Crum. A special thanks to Dr. Martin Harpen, along with Dr. Vandana
A. Patel, Dr. Snehal Damle, Dr. Mark Iacobucci and Dr. Roger W.
Newsom who gave her 5 additional years of life. Also, Dr. Joseph
Koen, Dr. Deborah Giorgi-Guarnieri, Dr. Daniel Garner, Dr. Jonathan
Partington, Dr. Rex Biedenbender, Dr. Subramanian Malaisamy, Dr. E.
Aubrey Murden, Jr. and Dr. Thomas J. Duntemann. Thanks to the
supporting nurses, staff and administration at all of the respective
doctors' offices. Appreciation to the nurses, aids, therapists and
staff at Bon Secours DePaul Medical Center, Bon Secours Maryview
Medical Center and Bon Secours-Maryview Nursing Center. Additional
thanks to her sister Nancy and to Laura Emons for their steadfast
love and support over the last 5 years, and especially to her
sister, Nancy, during the last 4 months of her life.
A funeral was held at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 10, at Sturtevant
Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel by the Revs. Gene V. Primm and
Bryan Ray. Burial was in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
