Carolyn A. Braithwaite JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Carolyn Avis "Kitty" Braithwaite, 77, went to be with the Lord Oct. 27, 2008. She was born Oct. 22, 1931, in Logan, W.Va., to the late Sherman Glenn Avis and Ruth Miller Jordan. Carolyn was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Jimmy Braithwaite. She is survived by two sons, Bob Braithwaite (Paige) and Greg Braithwaite (Annette); a sister, Mary Whitney (Allan); five grandchildren, Laurie Ruiz (Nelson), Lindsay Braithwaite, Bryant Braithwaite, Chase Braithwaite and Ali Braithwaite; and three great-grandchildren. Kitty worked for GMAC for 30 years in Portsmouth, Richmond and Jacksonville where she retired in 1983. She was also an active member of Southside Baptist Church for more than 40 years where she served in many capacities. Many knew her as a greeter on Sunday mornings and could find her in the kitchen on Wednesday nights, serving others with a smile on her face and making them always feel welcome. She was also an active member of Chapter H of PEO Sisterhood for 14 years where she held many offices, including vice president and president. The family would like to thank her caregivers, Virginia Moro, Lisa Jackson and Tina Stearn, for their loving care and friendship. Kitty was a true inspiration to all who knew her with her strong faith in God. She will be truly missed by her family and friends. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held in her church home, Southside Baptist Church, Friday, Nov. 7, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Gary Webber and the Rev. John Harmeling officiating. The family will receive friends at 10 a.m. before the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations may be made to The ALS Association, Florida Chapter, 3242 Parkside Center Circle, Tampa, FL 33619. Oaklawn Cemetery & Funeral Home, 4801 San Jose Blvd., Jacksonville, is serving the family.
