PORTSMOUTH - Dr. Harold Davis Taylor, 80, of Riverside Drive, died
Feb. 19, 2007, in Portsmouth.
Dr. Taylor, a native of Portsmouth, was a graduate of Cradock High
School, received his undergraduate degree in 1950 from the
University of Virginia and his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from
the Medical College of Virginia in 1954. He retired from dentistry
in 1991 after 37 years of practice. He was a member and past
president of the Portsmouth (Host) Lions Club and was named a Lions
Melvin Jones Fellow in 1996. He was the widower of Margaret Ann Reid
Taylor since her death in 1999. He was a member of Green Acres
Presbyterian Church and was a veteran of the U.S. Army, first as an
enlisted man and later as a captain of the Army Dental Corps.
Survivors include three sons, Charles D. Taylor of Virginia Beach,
Samuel R. Taylor of Jacksonville, Fla., and James A. Taylor and wife
Aysen of Chesapeake; two grandchildren, Kaan and Selin; and a
sister, Helen T. Prowse and husband Jack of Stockton, Calif. Besides
his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, Harold Arthur
Taylor and Ruby Marie Davis Taylor; and a sister, Marjorie Calloway.
A graveside funeral will be held at noon Thursday in Olive Branch
Cemetery by the Rev. Walter C. Hunting. In lieu of flowers, memorial
donations may be made to Green Acres Presbyterian Church, 3135
Hanley Ave., Portsmouth, VA 23703. Foster Funeral Home, Portsmouth,
is handling the arrangements.
