Norfolk - Ruth Cecelia Cutchins, 89, of the 9600 block of Sherwood Place, passed away Nov. 24, 2012.
Ruth is survived by her husband of 63 years, Robert "Bob" Cutchins; granddaughter, Kristen Winter and her husband Cory; a grandson, Clay Cutchins and his wife Suzi; great grandchildren, Emma Winter, Jack and Natalie Cutchins; a sister, Margaret Curtin and her husband Edward. Also a number of nephews, nieces and cousins survive Ruth.
Ruth, born in Alexandria, VA, the daughter of Herbert F. and Irene E. Ortt. At an early age Ruth moved to Cradock, VA. That quaint little town was a vital part of Ruth's life. In later years she called herself "The Old Cradock Girl", and referred to her husband as "The Old Cradock Boy", together they were "the Old Cradock couple". Ruth graduated from St. Joseph's Academy in June 1941. Ruth loved to dance and in the earlier years Ruth and Bob never missed a dance, especially in the "Big Band Era".
Ruth was a past president of the Pinewell Garden Club and enjoyed flower arranging.
Ruth was predeceased by her parents, a wonderful son, Richard E. Cutchins; and a brother, Herbert "Herby" Ortt; and a host of aunts and uncles.
A memorial service will be held at 12 PM Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2012, in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Tidewater Drive Chapel. A reception will be held at the home, 9601 Sherwood Place immediately following the service. A private family burial will be held at a later date in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Children's Hospital of the King's Daughters. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.hollomon-brown.com.
