PORTSMOUTH - Alma R. Lacy died peacefully June 3, 2010 at Lillian's Loving Care in Portsmouth. Born in South Carolina on Jan. 15, 1917, she was the adopted daughter of John and Susie Reaser. Alma graduated from Cradock High School and lived most of her life in the Portsmouth area. She was the widow of Clifford Lacy. Alma and Clifford were world travelers having crossed the Sahara Desert, traveled the Amazon, ridden on the Trans-Siberian Railway, heli-hopped in Canada, and viewed the hot springs of Iceland and Ayers Rock in Australia. Alma loved to tell of her many adventures. Alma's daily companions were her four turtles she had rescued from highway death. "I'm an animal lover," she often said. She loved her two churches, Berea Christian and Beech Grove Methodist, both in Driver. She participated in the women's groups and enjoyed helping make chocolate Easter eggs. Alma had many loving friends and neighbors who will miss her. A memorial service is planned for Sunday, June 13, at 2 p.m. at Berea Christian Church with Pastor Benn Fleming officiating. Loving Funeral Home is providing the information.
