PORTSMOUTH - Matilda Mott Liljegren, 88, longtime resident of Cradock, and most recently residing at Dominion Village of Chesapeake, passed away Sunday, May 3, 2009. 

Born Dec. 5, 1920, in Mount Mourne, N.C., to the late Henry and Rebecca Jane Mott, she was a member of Cradock United Methodist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Ingvar T. Liljegren; a sister, Mary M. Potts; and a great-grandson, Joshua A. McGinnis. 

She is survived by four daughters, Ruth L. Casteen and husband Tim, Margaret L. Collins, Deborah L. Weatherford and husband Tom, and Kathryn B. Creekmore and husband Charlie; a son, John E. Liljegren and wife Joyce; 11 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. 

A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel, by the Rev. T.M. Frye. Burial will follow in Olive Branch Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of choice. The family would like to extend thanks to Dominion Village of Chesapeake and Carrington Place of Chesapeake for the care given to our mother.
